When you're living abroad, expressing complex emotions in a language that isn't your own is challenging. Working with an experienced English-speaking psychologist means the language barrier is minimized, so you can feel confident that we truly understand each other at the level that effective therapy requires.
I understand the specific challenges that come with living in a new country: cultural adjustment, identity questions, relationship dynamics across cultures, and the particular pressures on international students and expat professionals. This understanding comes from more than five years of working with internationals in Dutch mental healthcare, as well as training from institutes in both the UK and the US, which has given me access to a broader range of approaches than you typically find in standard Dutch clinical practice.
Do you feel controlled by your emotions and thoughts? Do you keep falling back into old and ineffective patterns? Do you feel stuck at work? These are just a few of the questions we might explore together.
Drawing on both evidence-based and experiential approaches, I tailor therapy to what works for you. Transactional Analysis (TA) forms an important foundation, a psychotherapeutic approach that offers insight into psychological patterns and beliefs you have carried for a long time. The goal is not only greater self-understanding, but tangible change: more calm, more freedom in your choices, and a better relationship with yourself and others.
Alongside TA I work with methods such as EMDR, cognitive behavioural therapy, The Work by Byron Katie, Wholeness Work, and the Sedona Method. My approach is an active one, we do more than just talk, which means you are more likely to notice meaningful change sooner.
